Melissa Valchev, MSPT, SCS, ATC
Melissa has been practicing sports rehabilitation for over 20 years. First as an athletic trainer at UC Davis and continuing on after attaining her MS degree in Physical Therapy from the UCSF/SFSU. Melissa started her career working with mountain athletes in South Lake Tahoe, and went on to work working within a multidisciplinary team that provided care to the athletes at Stanford University for 10 years. While providing care to the 35 teams within the Stanford Athletic Department, but she also became committed to research and integration of best practices to the athletes.
When Melissa moved to Truckee in 2013 to become Director of Tahoe Forest Hospital’s Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance, she became reacquainted with mountain athletes and learned once again that the passion to live life to the fullest never wanes. She continues to follow her passion and commitment to excellence and is looking forward to applying her knowledge and skills to the members of this awesome mountain community.
Melissa’s clinical specialties include advising and implementing strategies for preventing and treating orthopedic injuries, providing manual and exercise based rehabilitation services, assessing running and foot biomechanics as well as developing return to sport strategies to maximize success and prevent re-injury.
